Delmer Victor Forsberg, 88, of Chippewa Township, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, October 13, 2010.
Born July 30, 1922, in Stoneboro, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer V. and Helen M. Laveing Forsberg. He graduate from Stoneboro High School, Class of 1940, studied engineering at Geneva College, Metallurgy at Penn State University, and pre-med at the University of Pittsburgh. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, which is now the U.S. Air Force in 1942. He became a B-24 bomber pilot during World War II, where he served for the duration of the war with his twin brother Delbert. He was a First Lieutenant and was shot down and spent 61/2 months in three different German prisoner of war camps. He endured forced marches of five days each between the camps. He and Delbert authored a book “Twin Destinies” outlining their wartime experiences. At his discharge from the Army in 1945, following the liberation of the POW camps by the Allied armies, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, POW medal, Greek Air Medal, and the Caterpillar Club Award which was given to pilots who parachute from their planes. After the war, he married Inez Bailey on April 1, 1950 and began his career owning and operating Twin Mobile Homes for 53 years. He also owned and developed four mobile home developments in Western Pennsylvania. Del was a former president of the Ambridge Rotary Club, former president of the Pennsylvania Mobile Home Association, founder of the Legal Action Committee of the Pennsylvania Manufactured Housing Association (PMHA), current board member of the PMHA Board of Directors, past chairman of two Beaver County Air Shows, past chairman of the Chippewa Township Supervisors. In addition to his involvement in the various organizations, he and his wife Inez were founding members of Chippewa Evangelical Free Church where they remain as active members.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Inez Bailey Forsberg, daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Rob Christenson, Hillsboro, NH, two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Linda Forsberg, Hazel Green, AL, Craig and Sherry Forsberg, Chippewa Township, his grandchildren, Ben Christenson, North Carolina , Aaron Christenson and Anna Christenson, both of New Hampshire, Brent Forsberg, Alabama, Alan Forsberg, Connecticut, Alex Forsberg and Ryan Forsberg, both of Beaver Falls, a step granddaughter, Eliina Fischer, Alabama, his great-grandchildren, Reece and Rhett Christenson, of North Carolina, his twin brother and his wife, Delbert and Irene Forsberg, Leesburg, FL, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Phillis, formerly of Fombell, now residing in Ohio, nieces and nephews, cousins, and his loving and faithful friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Ailean and an infant brother and infant sister.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill and Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801-4th Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Chippewa Evangelical Church, 239 Braun Road, with Pastor Bill Walder officiating.
Private entombment in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum.
The Beaver County Special Unit will be at the church on Saturday at 9:50 a.m. to conduct full military rites.
