Donald S. “ Blackie” Blackburn, 75, of West Mayfield, passed away February 14, 2008 after an extended illness in Kindred Hospital Heritage Valley, Brighton Township.
Born November 15, 1932 in New Brighton, PA was the son of the late Allen B. & Mildred ( Wigal) Blackburn, he was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War, stationed in Japan from 1953-1955, received the following medals, good conduct, National Defense Service, Korean Service, United Nations Service, along with the Expert Badge with Rifle bar. He retried after 36 years of service from Babcock & Wilcox working in both the East Works & Wallace Run Plants; a longtime member of the Beaver Falls SOI and the Beaver Falls Owls; he was an avid golfer, bowler, hunter, and bocce ball.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Patricia A. ( Grant) Blackburn, two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald P & Lisa Blackburn, Philadelphia, PA; Russell M. & Kelly Blackburn, West Mayfield; a daughter Rhonda J. Blackburn & her fiancé LeRoy McCullough, West Mayfield; four grandchildren Keely Crile; Preston, Libby, and Allison Blackburn.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Donald R. Blackburn, Jan. 13, 2007; and three brothers Allan, Cecil and Melvin Blackburn.
Friend will be received Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com, 3801-4th Avenue, College Hill, Beaver Falls, PA 15010. Where a service will be held Monday at 12 Noon, with his nephew the Rev. David L. Blackburn, officiating.
Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery, Wampum.
Member of the Veteran’s Honor Guard will meet at the cemetery at 12:45 PM to provide full military honor.
