Francis Turkovich, 86, of the Providence Care Center, formerly of Monaca, died Sunday September 14, 2008, in Providence Care Center, Beaver Falls.

Born June 11, 1922, in Aliquippa, PA, he was the son of the late John and Helen Pavlich Turkovich. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater, during which he received a Purple Heart. He graduated from Masonry school and was a retired crane operator from Teledyne Steel in Monaca. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Monaca, the Green Valley Sportsman Club and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, woodworker and gardener. He also loved dogs.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and George Anderson, Darlington Township; Rosemarie and Ronald Mercandante, Baden, and Diane and Dr. Robert Knapp, Brighton Township; five grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen and Tina Petterson, George III and Jennifer Anderson, Heather and Ted Dengel, Greg Anderson and Karen Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Isaiah, Severin and Finnian; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George and Anne Turkovich, Center Township, and Peter Turkovich, Coraopolis; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Turkovich, Aliquippa, and Mildred Turkovich, Center Township, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Enders Turkovich on August 22, 2007; two brothers, Louis and John Turkovich; three sisters, Ann Sloppy, Catherine Vedro and Mary Gilbert; a nephew, Tim Turkovich, and a great-niece, Brittany Turkovich.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the HILL & KUNSELMAN FUNERAL HOME, www.hillandkunselman.com, 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls, where a Blessing service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Father Steven M. Palsa officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Big Beaver.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the cemetery at 10:20 a.m. on Thursday to conduct full military rites.
