George A. Boxen, Sr., 88, of the Franciscan Manor, formerly of Conneaut Lake, died Monday, July 7, 2008.
Born April 1, 1920 in Windber, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Hric Boxen. He retired as an inspector from the former Babcock & Wilcox Tubular Products Company in 1979 with 24 years of service. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater and had been stationed in Guam, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He attended St. John the Evangelist Orthodox Church, he was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose, West Mayfield Vets, Beaver Falls Turners, Croatian Club, and the Beaver Falls American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Gregorich Boxen in 1986, two brothers Michael and John, and two sisters Mary and Pauline.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George, Jr. and Edie Boxen, College Hill, three grandchildren, Ronald and Tammy Boxen, New Galilee, Nina Young and her fiancé Arthur Brown, Ohioville, Robyn and Shawn McCracken, Center Township, eleven great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Helen Nyeste, Lincoln Park, Mich, and Olga Shernigo, Garfield Heights, OH.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801-4th Avenue, College Hill, where prayers will be recited on Friday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 1501-8th Ave., Beaver Falls with Father Christopher Davis officiating.
Interment to follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the cemetery on Friday at 11:30 a.m. to conduct full military rites.
