John A. Thompson, 84, of Beaver Falls, died Monday, July 12, 2010 in the emergency room of the Medical Center Beaver.
     Born April 26, 1926 in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Claude and Helena Scott Thompson.  He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.   He retired with 14 years of service from the security department of the Medical Center Beaver. He had also been employed for 30 years for the DeAngelis Donut Shop.   He was a member of the Beaver Falls American Legion, Post No. 261,  a former member of the Holy Name Society and a former of the Knights of Columbus.  He was an active member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Mary Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Padre Pio Prayer Group.  He and his wife Mary were presented with the Divine Mercy Stewardship Award on June 27, 2010.  He had previously been presented with the Proclaiming of the Kingdom Award by Bishop Donald Wuerl.       
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Gerald Thompson, killed in action at Anzio in World War II, Kenneth, Claude, Jr. and Edward “Ted” Thompson, and two sisters, his twin sister Mary Lucini and Marjorie Means.
       He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary DeAngelis Thompson,  two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Gerald Flynn, Wildwood, FL, Amelia and Edward Mamula, Monaca, two sons and daughters-in-law, John A. Jr., and Janet Thompson, Leesburg, VA, Paul M. and Francine Thompson, Beaver Falls, 12 grandchildren,  and 14 great-grandchildren.
     Friends will be received today from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from
2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801-4th Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls, where prayers will be recited on Friday at 9:20 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Divine Mercy Parish, St. Mary Church, with the Rev. Father James B. Farnan as celebrant.
           Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Chippewa Township.
      The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the cemetery on Friday at 11 a.m. to conduct military honors.
