Kenneth William Eckman son of the late Calvin & Anna Eckman passed away Wednesday April 21, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 26, 1917, Ken was not your typical 92 year old. In addition to his golfing, bowling, and bocce he found time to support the local high school sporting teams and was honored as a loyal booster. He was an active member of the West Mayfield Fire Department for 58 years and as he grew to old to actively fight fires he served the local communities as a member of the Beaver Valley Fire Police come rain or shine you would find Ken out there directing traffic during any emergency, festival or community event. He was also a proud member of the Beaver County Club of Retired Persons and the College Hill United Methodist Church, Bocce Club LMBA, New Galilee. Ken served his county during WWII in US Army 3rd Air Force Military Police. He played in and coached many local baseball & softball teams and at one time was the Pennsylvania Amature senior bowling champion.
In addition to his parents Ken was preceded in death by his 6 brothers & 2 sisters.
Ken proudly told people he was blessed with 2 good women in his life. His beloved wife Dorothy ( Sedgewick) Eckman who preceded him in death and his wonderful wife Mona who was with him till he left to join the Lord.
In addition Ken is survived by his loving children, Nancy ( Chuck) Henderson, Mona ( Charles) Hyde, Georgia ( Joe) Neuman, George ( Bonnie) Maze , and James ( Lynn) Maze. 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, beloved sisters-in-law and many, many nieces, nephews, great & great-great nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday from 6-8 PM and Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com , 3801-4th Avenue, College Hill, Beaver Falls. Where a service will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 AM, with his pastor, Rev. Greg Cox officiating.
Members of the Veterans’ Honor Guard will conduct a service Saturday at 10:45 AM in the funeral home.
Private interment will follow in Concord Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the College Hill United Methodist Church or the West Mayfield Fire Department.
