Michael T. Wickline, 52, of North Sewickley Township, died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 12, 2010.
Born July 9, 1958 in New Brighton, he was the son of Lyle and Mollie Ventressa Wickline of West Mayfield. He was a member of Chippewa Evangelical Free Church. He was a graduate of Blackhawk High School, California University of Pennsylvania, and Slippery Rock University. He received his undergraduate degree from Californian University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree in guidance counseling from Slippery Rock. He taught industrial arts at the Riverside Middle School and the high school and last year he transitioned into the position of guidance counselor at the high school. Mike served as a coach at the high school level for many years. He was the assistant football coach at Western Beaver High School for 23 years. He then moved on to Riverside High School where se served as defensive coordinator for the Panthers for three seasons, as well as the freshman basketball coach. He also worked as a mobile therapist for Western Psychiatric Care. He joined the Geneva College football coaching staff in 2009 as the defensive line coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Golden Tornadoes.
“Tough as nails” is how Geneva College head football coach Gene DeMarco described him. Coach DeMarco said that he was renowned for his strength and passion.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Gretchen Mussey Wickline, their three children, Emily, Jake, and Olivia, his brother Alan Wickline, West Mayfield, a sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Tony Cortese, Patterson Township, three nephews, Alan Wickline, Justin Best, Tony Cortese, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glenn and Bea Mussey.
Friends will be received Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801-4th Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls.
There will be an additional visitation on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. in the Chippewa Evangelical Free Church, 239 Braun Road, Chippewa Township.
Private interment in Concord Cemetery, North Sewickley Township.
Memorial contributions may be made, if desired, in care of the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, 3801-4th Ave., Beaver Falls, PA 15010 to assist the family in establishing an educational fund for his children.
