Stephen Zachewicz, 93, of Beaver Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 in the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Beaver Township.
Born Aug. 10, 1916 in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Josef and Anna Niedbala Zachewicz. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 until 1945 and attained the rank of Chief Boatswain Mate. He served aboard the battleship USS Wyoming and also served in an anti-submarine wartime unit. He had retired after 30 years of service from the former Babcock & Tubular Products Company, Steel Mill Department where he was a ladle crane man. He was a member of the Beaver Falls Polish Falcons Nest. No. 318 and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Edith E. Goddard Zachewicz on Aug. 25, 2006, a son Thomas Zachewicz in 1991, a brother Al Lawrence and two sisters, Antonina Zwierzchon and Frances Lewandoski.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Nancy Zachewicz, New Bern, NC, C. Stephen “Smoke” and Denise Zachewicz, Chippewa Township, Bruce “Boo” and Vickie Zachewicz, Enon Valley, seven grandchildren and their spouses, Laura and Paul Ringheiser, Bradford and Missy Zachewicz, Scott and Amy Zachewicz, David Zachewicz, Mark and Maggie Zachewicz, Leah Zachewicz, Joey Zachewicz, and six great-grandchildren, Noah, Rece, Heath, Mia, Cooper, and McKenna.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801-4th Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls where a service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Lay Pastor William Beatty officiating.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. to conduct military rites.
