W. Emerson Arthur, 98, of Beaver Falls, formerly of Darlington, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Beaver Township.
Born April 10, 1910 in Woodside, New Jersey, he was the son of the late W. Scott and Evelyn Cora Burns Arthur. He was a member of the Chippewa Presbyterian Church, a U.S. Army veteran having enlisted in 1928 and served in several branches including Battery “C” 4th Coast Artillery, the Panama Canal Zone, Company “F” 15th Infantry, Tensin, China, and with the U.S. Navy in San Pedro, California. He had retired in 1975 from Armstrong World Industries with 43 years of service as a production foreman. He was a former school board member in the Northwestern Jointure School District.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Weider Arthur in 1999, and a brother Raymond and a sister Dorothy.
Emerson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl E. and Grace Arthur, Palatine, Illinois, Scott and Dana Arthur, Chippewa Township, three grandchildren, Lisa Fox and her husband Mark, Cambodia, Jonathan Arthur, Palatine, Illinois, and Jennifer Arthur, Hopewell Township.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801-4th Ave., College Hill. The funeral service will be held on Thursday in the funeral home.
Private interment will follow in the Beaver Falls Cemetery.
