Chippewa Township

Eleanor Gross Gaudio, 92, of Chippewa Township, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019.

Born on February 20, 1927, Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Beaver Falls. She was the daughter of the late Adam and Ethel (Bohar) Gross and of College Hill.

Eleanor graduated from Beaver Falls in 1944, and then attended Geneva College (Class of 1948) where she attained her B.A. in education. After being hired as the Beaver Falls Jr. High librarian in 1969, she obtained her MLS from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Library Science. Prior to her teaching career at Beaver Falls, Eleanor spent her early years substitute teaching there as well as at Highland Junior High and Northwestern High School.

Eleanor loved teaching, books and to read, but she got the most enjoyment from her annual reading of “Beowulf” to her classes. After retirement, she continued to volunteer with the libraries in Beaver Falls and New Smyrna Beach, FL where she and Francis wintered. She adored Florida and relaxing by the pool and at the beach. Eleanor believed in lifetime learning and was always up for trying something new which led her to tap dancing and tennis lessons.

Eleanor was a talented seamstress and outfitted her husband and daughter for many years. She loved to travel and made frequent road trips with her husband Francis and their friends seeing the sights of America. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She would shop ‘til she dropped for the latest fashions, especially shoes, and took great pride in keeping her wardrobe up with the times.

For years Eleanor and Francis followed “Fighting Tigers” football and basketball. As Steeler season ticket holders, they enjoyed treating themselves to overnight stays in Pittsburgh on game days.

Eleanor was active in the community serving on the Carnegie Library of Beaver Falls Board of Directors and as a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a charter member and had been involved with St Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, and later of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Francis; brother Ernest Gross; and sister and brother-in-law, Elsa (Gross) and Nick Kasunick. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Gaudio (Beaver Falls); her nephew Gene (Janet) Kasunick, CO; three great nephews; nine great nieces and nephews; her dear friends of over eight decades Dolores Gropp and Elsie McConville; her cats Buttons, Butterscotch and Tortie and special friend Christopher Pacella.

Friends will be received Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls,  where the service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev.
