James Luce Obituary

James B. Luce, 68, of Beaver died on July 22, 2019 of esophageal cancer.  He was born on January 13, 1951 in New Brighton, PA.  A 1968 graduate of New Brighton High School and 1972 graduate of Geneva College, he also attended the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and completed graduate studies at Kent State University.  He served on the academic administrative staff as Senior Instructional Services Specialist at Penn State Beaver for 36 years.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Byron B. and Gretchen Painter Luce.  Also by brothers, the Rev. Thomas P. Luce and Fredric Luce.  He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Dr. Carol B. Luce.  Also by son, Jeffrey J. Luce of Portland, OR and by daughter, Cheryl (Anthony) Luce Fuga of Chicago, IL.

James was a Pittsburgh sport enthusiast.  He was a playwright and former member of the Pittsburgh Public Theater Playwright group.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, where he had served as deacon.  He was a former board member for the United Way, Beaver County.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 3 at First Presbyterian Church, 252 College Ave., Beaver, PA at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jeff Arnold officiating.  Friends will be received 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church with a luncheon following the service.  Memorial donations may be made, if desired, to First Presbyterian Church, Beaver.
