Clair Shaffer Obituary

 

Clair Shaffer, 83, of Beaver Falls, passed away on October 26, 2019 at Beaver Meadows, in Brighton Twp.  Clair was born on July 22, 1936.  He was the son of the late Clair and Mabel Shaffer.  Surviving is his wife of 30 years, Cathleen; daughters Susan Neumann and Kristen (Bill) Holmes; son Craig (Dawn); step-sons Scott (Penny) Brooks and Brian (Carrie) Brooks.  Clair is also survived by brothers Donald (Sella) and Dennis (Joann); sisters Hilda Pflug and Nancy (Paul) Alexander; sister-in-law Julia Shaffer.  He was preceded in death by his brother Robert; brother-in-law Merrill Pflug; and nephew Michael Pflug.

Clair is also survived by grandchildren Katie Neumann, Logan Shaffer, William and Dabney Holmes, Carter Brooks, Sidney and Brayden Brooks, Travis and Tessa Miller and many nieces and nephews.

Clair was a United States Army veteran and upon his returning from service, worked 27 years at St. Joe Minerals Electrical Department until its closing.  He retired from the Borough of Ellwood City Electrical Department.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls where he spent many years volunteering with their soup kitchen.  He was a PIAA, Beaver Valley Chapter basketball and football official for 35 years, a 65 year member of the Big Knob Grange and a Lifetime Member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Rochester Lodge No. 229.

Friends will be received on November 4, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com.,  in Beaver Falls with a Masonic Service held at 6:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held on November 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Falls.  A private interment service will follow at the Sylvania Hills Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Beaver Meadows for their compassion and care Clair received during his nearly 5 years as a resident, and to St. Barnabas Hospice for their exceptional care during the past several months.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Soup Kitchen, 1103- 8th Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.

The Veterans Honor Guard will meet at the church on Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. to conduct military honors.
