Dorothy M. (Schmidt) Sherman, 90, of South Beaver Twp. passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver.
Dorothy was born in Hopewell Twp., on November 20, 1929, to the late Frederick John and Bessie (McBride) Schmidt. She was a 1947 graduate of Hopewell High School and the former Garfield Business College, Beaver Falls. She worked many years as a secretary and bookkeeper, beginning her career at Diamond Milling in New Brighton and retiring in 2005, from TL Ferguson in Chippewa Twp.
Dorothy married Donald W. Sherman on June 21, 1952. They spent the next 68 years together on their dairy farm in South Beaver Township. On nice sunny afternoons they enjoyed flying their Cessna 172 airplane and rejoicing in God's creation from the sky.
Dorothy's first priority was always her family and then her church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and her famous roadside flowers.
She was a member of Fairview Reformed Presbyterian Church in Ohioville, the Grange, several farming organizations, the Pennsylvania and National Flying Farmers Association and a Little Beaver Lioness.
In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, Joel and Lorraine Sherman, South Beaver Twp. and Mary Sherman, New Carlisle, Ohio; five grandchildren, Amy (Brad) Henderer, Ohio, Jared (Emily) Sherman, Md., Beth (Chuck) Lewis, Ohio, Chad (Katie) Sherman, Greensburg, Pa. and Meghan Sherman, Tenn.; four great grandsons, Isaiah Lewis, Jacob, Evan and Samuel Sherman and a great granddaughter, Emma Dorothy Sherman.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Donald Sherman (2018) and two sisters, Betty Ruth Schmidt and Virginia (Schmidt) Lydic.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the HILL & KUNSELMAN FUNERAL HOME, www.hillandkunselman.com, 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Her Pastors, Reverend Jeff K. Zehnder and Pastor Richard L. Raines will officiate.
Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Ohioville.
