Sam Burns

George “Samuel” Burns, 85, of the Providence Care Center, formerly of South Beaver Township, died Wednesday, July 10, 2019.
Born October 9, 1933 in Chippewa Township, he was the son of the late George D. and Bessie Kellaway Burns, and step-son of the late Emma Moody Burns. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War. He had been a truck driver for New Penn Motor Freight Company and a member of the Teamsters Union for many years, and had been an usher and a lifelong member of the Chippewa United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents and his step mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Betty J. “Bonnie” Carroll Burns on December 13, 2016, a brother, Donald Burns and a sister Catherine “Kitty” Avery Finney.
He is survived by two daughters, Becky (Baldwin) Shade, New Castle, Christine Mattes and Dan, West Mayfield, a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Stacie Burns, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren a brother, Jay Burns, Oklahoma, and several friends from the Chippewa United Methodist Church who visited Sam on a regular basis.
Friends will be received Monday, July 15, 2019 from 6 p.m. until the time of the service at 8:00 p.m. in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls, with Dr. Daniel A. Stinson officiating. Private interment in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
The Vietnam Veterans of America-Chapter 862, Southwestern Pennsylvania will conduct full military rites at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
