Joan A. DeRose, 86, of Chippewa Township, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at her home surrounded by family.
Joan was born on October 21, 1935, in Rochester, to the late Andrew and Amelia (Cucinelli) Matteo. She was the first female licensed barber in the state of Pennsylvania and worked in her dad’s Barbershop for many years. She owned and operated the former Decorator’s World in Beaver Falls. She was also a former manager for Bain’s Deli in the Beaver Valley Mall.
Joan was a devoted member of St. Monica Parish in Chippewa.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Edward DeRose; their three children, Susan DeRose, Lafayette, CO, Edward A. DeRose, Beaver Falls, and Drew DeRose (Roger Savonen), Boston, MA; two grandsons, Lucas DeRose and Edward DeRose III and his wife Wendy; three great-grandchildren, Vincent, Mila and Indica DeRose; a sister, Marie Tooch and the late Bevo, Chippewa Twp. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Matteo.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the HILL AND KUNSELMAN FUNERAL HOME, www.hillandkunselman.com , 3801 Fourth Avenue, Beaver Falls, where prayers will be recited Friday at 10:20 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Monica Parish, 116 Thorndale Drive, Chippewa Township with Father Kim Schreck as Celebrant.
Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
