John “Uncle Jack” Gavan, 96, a lifelong resident of White Township, was born on November 1, 1926 and passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Cambridge Village where he resided.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Navy Air Corp, where he served in both World War II and the Korean War. He retired after 32 years as a foreman for Babcock & Wilcox and was a parishioner of St. Augustine Parish, formerly St. Monica Parish in Chippewa.
Jack was a longtime member of the White Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Beaver Falls American Legion Post 261. He loved cars. He enjoyed restoring them and attended many car shows.
He will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law, Larry G. Pamer; 21 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and nephews, and 5 great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Gavan and Estella Marie (Hammer) Gavan; an infant brother, George and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Ruth E. Gavan, Margaret “Peg” and John R. Pamer, and Therese G. Pamer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 14th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Parish, 116 Thorndale Drive, Chippewa Township. Everyone should go directly to church.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
