Mary Alice (Wood) Bernstein

 Mary Alice (Wood) Bernstein, 92, of Camp Hill, PA and formerly of Beaver. PA, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

Most commonly known as “Dr. Dunn’s nurse,” she was born January 2, 1929 in Detroit, MI, and was the daughter of the late J. Norman and Elizabeth (Grant) Wood.  She was a member of the Chippewa United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three children, Joseph N. Bernstein, Sr., Mineral Ridge, Ohio, Karen Smith and her husband Doug Brown, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Melinda K. Bernstein, Silver Spring, Maryland, two grandchildren, Joseph N. Bernstein, Jr., Jennifer Bernstein, three great-grandchildren, and one loving sister, Geraldine Thonen, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Edward Bernstein, June 20, 2019, three brothers Thomas, Jack and Samuel Wood, and two sisters, Norma L. Paxton and Donna J. Laughlin.

Mary Alice was a devoted and active volunteer with Crimson Line, Vietnam Veterans of America, Friendship Ridge, Heritage Valley Medical Center and Yellow Ribbon Girls.  Her proudest achievement was graduating from nursing school late in life.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 6 PM until time of service at 8:30 PM in the Hill & Kunselman Funeral Home, www.hillandkunselman.com., 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls. Rev Rodney Smith, officiating. 

 Private interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania.

The family wishes to express deeply heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Homeland Center in Harrisburg, PA, where she was showered with love and respect from everyone.
