Maxine Young Obituary

Maxine Ida Carole Young, of White Twp. Went from labor to reward on Monday, January 16, 2023.  Maxine was born on December 8, 1944 in Beaver Falls to the late Rev. John Elige Young, Sr. and Lela (Singleton) Young.  She was the ninth of ten children born to this union.

Maxine was a 1962 Graduate of Beaver Falls High School and Garfield Business School, and later attended Community College of Beaver County to study Accounting.

Maxine had many careers in her lifetime.  She started her career at Providence Hospital and was employed at Peter J. Luger and Sons for at least 10 years.  She was employed at Arco Chemical beginning in the plant and then promoted to the Accounting Department where she finished her career under Nova Chemical.  Maxine was later employed by Adult Literacy Action Penn State Beaver Campus as a Business Manager.

She had the reputation of being the “Cool Aunt”, the one with the convertible and blowing scarf that looked forward to the next adventure.  Her interest included, photography, cake decorating, traveling, spending time with family, and helping the elderly in the community.  She volunteered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and enjoyed serving meals to families at Thanksgiving.

She served faithfully as a lifelong member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunshine Band leader, choir member, and Young Women’s Christian Council.  She was a licensed Evangelist Missionary in the Church of God In Christ.  She enjoyed the fellowship and learning God’s word at the Moody Bible College.

Maxine embraced and treasured the title, “Church Mother” at Christ Temple Church.  She was a woman of prayer while counseling and encouraging people to trust God and his plan for their lives.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. John E. Young Jr., and five sisters Dorothy Davis, Edna Hauser, Laura Phelps, Dora Hobson and Marian Young.  She is survived by her brother, Rev. Robert W. Young and two sisters, Emma Gibson and Marva Clinkscales; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Her family consisting of Belinda Jones, Deborah Young-Hood and the late Elder Bruce Hauser, served as her caretakers and catered to her needs with a spirit of excellence.  A special thanks to the community neighbors that provided assistance as needed.

Maxine’s prayer is, 3 John 1:4 - “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”  There will be a memorial service at her home church, Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, 2420 – 9th Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023.
