Raymond D. “Hap” McMurdy, Sr., 95, a lifelong resident of Beaver Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
Hap was born on October 6, 1927, in Beaver Falls to the late William M. and Gladys (Finney) McMurdy. He was a 1945 graduate of Beaver Falls High School, a veteran of the United States Navy and a retired mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Hap enjoyed bowling, fishing, horseshoes, and trips to the casinos.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl M. (Jamison) McMurdy in 2016; his daughter-in-law, Katherine McMurdy in 2023; three brothers, Richard, William, and Donald McMurdy and two stepbrothers, James and Robert Hammers.
Surviving is his son, Raymond D. McMurdy, Jr., Beaver Falls; his daughter, Darlene Bennett, Horseheads, NY; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Although Hap enjoyed the hobbies and interests listed above his primary love was his family. Being a husband and father meant more to him than providing for his family’s financial needs. He felt in order to be a good spouse and father one must support and participate in all aspects of family life.
